about
(sorry little life)
by Russ Collins
Started out as a song called ' ' and remains one of the final demos left over from the 'forever, later' sessions. This was the last song I sent Aaron, who then went into the studio with Dan on bass, to interpret and record the other parts. The song originates from 2005, when I was in a peak period of writing. I’m not a musician. Aaron is. Dan is. I just write songs and lyrics and stick chords that sound alright next to them. Then wander off and leave them for sixteen years.
The vocals were recorded in Eastbourne, in a mate’s stairwell, that had the best sound possible for a party house. The songs have spent so long in the doldrums before release as I only wanted Aaron on drums, as he's the best drummer in the western hemisphere in my humble opinion, and he was busy on other projects.
I like the slow tempo of this song. It feels like it should be faster, but after a few seconds listening the song starts to 'roll' and sweep, for me, a bit like the tide. The front cover of the single is from the Cuckmere in East Sussex, near both of ours home town, and as iconic an image as I
lyrics
How can you claim that your wrong?
When you know that your right?
How can you sit on my mind when you
You know that you'll find...
You stare at the sun,
Wait for the light,
You know it's something to sing when you're down
You sleep in the dark
You wait for the spark
The telephone's looking at you on the wall
You might be the one,
You still ride the sun,
if you see heaven them tell him to wait,
You're still on my mind, and girl and you'll find,
The feelings they won't fly away, not this time,
You still ride the sun.
How can you claim that you're wrong?
When you know that you're right?
How can you sit on my mind, when you know that you'll find?
You know that it's right,
Wait for the light,
You know that it's something to sing when you're down,
You sleep in the dark
You wait for the spark
Telephone's looking at you on the wall
You might be the one
You still ride the sun
If you can see heaven then tell him to wait
You're still on my mind
And girl and you'll find
The feelings they won't fly away, not this time.....
You still ride the sun.
